Metallurg Magnitogorsk VS Dinamo Riga 13.11.2008 5-3
Dinamo was weakened for the game. Our leaders Marcel Hossa and Matt Ellison were out due to a disqualification for the fights in the last game. Dinamo’s new goalkeeper, Martin Prusek took the place in the net.
The game in the first period was rather equal, although Riga was a little better. Dinamo had more shots on goal - 11:8, more goal-scoring moments, but Metallurg looked quite withered. Dinamo Riga managed to score in power-play two times, after Aleksandrs Nizivijs shot in the beginning and Girts Ankipans in the middle of the period. So Riga’s lead after the first 20 minutes was appropriate.
Metallurg began the second period the same. Only in the fifth minute Magnitka earned a power-play, which they, however, used – a ricochet on Zavarukhin’s hook and 1:2. After some minutes Mikelis Redlihs passed the puck from behind the net on his partner, who shoted, Proskuryakov didn’t catch the puck and Lauris Darzins got it in to the empty net! But the goal wasn’t counted… The referee went to watch the video, where he saw, there was a penalty from Dinamo’s side (high-sticking against Kaigorodoff) before scoring. Darzinsh got a 5+20 and the team was left short-handed for five minutes. The first two minutes Riga defended nicely, but then Igor Mirnoff tied the score! And after just one minute and 7 seconds Kudrna, after Pruseck had beat off the puck, gave his team the lead. After such a nightmare, Dinamo got a power-play, which was necessarily for at least getting some rest. Metallurg was its self again, so after – the home team dictated their own rules, attacking almost all the time (the shots after this period were 15:5). On the periods last minute Blinovs got a minor penalty for hooking. It was good for Dinamo, that the siren rang – Metallurg was close to score.
Dinamo was still SH in the beginning of the third period, but Magnitka didn’t do anything. Riga went on attacking, Magnitogorsk – counter-attacking. Dinamo didn’t have many chances to score, but on the eighth minute they got PP and after 57 seconds Metallurg was left with only three players. Riga had to score and did – Hartigan with an awesome wrist shot in the top of the net!! But a few minutes later Platonoff after a shot from behind the net once again gave his team the lead. An unnecessary goal, but it’s hard to judge Prusek, because it’s almost impossible to react, when goals are scored from this position. Once again Riga needed to score. But the team didn’t, Metallurg, however, did – on a counter-attack Rolineck passed on Yaroslav Kudrna, who wasn’t covered at all, but ought have been – two of Dinamo’s defensemen were right near him. Riga got a penalty after this goal, so the winner of the match was practically clear.
Despite the defeat, I think, our team did quite well. Metallurg is a high-class team and it’s not easy playing against it. Riga, however, showed a good game and once again proved that it can battle with teams, which are at a higher level.
Dinamo’s next game is with Traktor on November 15th.
Dinamo Moscow were weakened for this game, as they had 6 injured players, as Dinamo Riga had only Juris Stals injured, Edgars Masalskis is no longer contracted with Dinamo Riga till he will recover from his bad injury. Both teams started game with exchanging shots with each other, little better opportunities had Dinamo Riga on goal scoring, some good shots had Mark Hartigan and Martins Cipulis. First penalty was given to Guntis Galvins for hooking at 8th minute, Dinamo Moscow had one good shot at their PP, Dinamo Riga had played pretty solid defensively this SH time. After few seconds after end of penalty Mark Hartigan had a great opertunity to score but he was hit down by Dinamo Moscow player, and Mark Hartigan earned for Dinamo Riga PP. In PP time Mark Hartigan had some pushing and word exchange with Dinamo Moscow and both received 2 penalty minutes. In next attack Dinamo Moscow player pushed Mikelis Redlihs after a whistle, so Dinamo Riga had to play 5-3 for some time, a good opportunity to score. Starting PP five against three only good shot made Girts Ankipans, after few seconds Aleksejs Sirokovs was penalized for his mistake against Dinamo Moscow player, 4 on 4 for half-minute, after end of earlier penalty Dinamo Moscow was on PP, Dinamo Moscow had made 2 dangerous shots in their PP. Before the end of the first period Marcel Hossa made a good pass to Matt Ellison that he did not made in to the net. Both teams played equally this period. Best players for Dinamo Riga in this period, in my opinion, were - Mikelis Redlihs, Marcel Hossa and Mark Hartigan.
Second period started with a concerned goal for Dinamo Riga, Ceyanek scored, Dinamo Riga had a bad line change, that is the reason, in my opinion, when was made such a dangerous attack that resulted in goal concerning. After two minutes Dinamo Moscow had another dangerous atack, without turning it into the goal, after this moment Dinamo Riga had a good counter-attack that almost ended in scoring a goal, but almost does not count...Goal for Dinamo Riga!!! After few moments Girts Ankipans scored a goal with a rebound shot!!! After minute Lauris Darzins received penalty for high sticking. Dinamo Riga played well defencivly, Dinamo Moscow did not made even a one dangerous shot. After end of penalty for Dinamo Riga, Dinamo Moscow player was penalized, and after few dangerous moments Ellison SCORED!!! After a great combination by our legionnaires 2 -1 at 8th minute. At 10th minute Dinamo Moscow player received penalty. Another PP for Dinamo Riga, in first seconds of PP our PP unit made a dangerous moment that did not end in scoring, afterwards Armands Berzins had a great opertunity, but no goal again, ending this PP without a goal. After a minute Dinamo Riga had a bad mistake and Dinamo Moscow player made a dangerous shot. For the next few minutes nothing much had happaned, both teams made some shots but with no result. Near the end of second period Dinamo Moscow made a good pressure on Dinamo Riga, resulting in Dinamo Riga making mistake, that ended up with penalty. Dinamo Riga played good this SH Mark Hartigan made a counter-attack resulting in earning penalty for Dinamo at the end of the period. Dinamo Riga were better than Dinamo Moscow, resulting in score 2-1. Also we can make thanks to Dinamo Moscow for making so much penalties. Best players, in my opinion, in this period were - Sergejs Naumovs, Matt Ellison, Girts Ankipans.
Third period Dinamo Riga started to play in PP, Dinamo Riga made some good shots at this PP, after few moments Armands Berzins made a mistake concluding in received a penalty, Dinamo Moscow had one dangerous shot, but this shot did not end in scoring. At 7th minute Guntis Galvins made a stupid mistake, shooting puck over the glass, 2 minutes. At this penalty time there were almoast a fight between two teams, Mark Hartigan had yet again word exchange. After this moment Dinamo Moscow scored a PP goal in 9th minute...2-2. After a minute Dinamo Moscow Canadion scored again...2-3...Those 50 Moscow Dinamo fans were really loud after these moments. After few seconds Rodrigo Lavins SCORED!!! 3-3! After this moment referee started to view video replay if this goal was legitime. AND REFEREE POINTED TO THE CENTER! At 12th minute Ellison had an excellent opertunity, but he missed. At 13th minute Dinamo Moscow almoast scored a goal, but Dinamo Riga had all their Gods with them, Dinamo Moscow was pressuring Dinamo Riga till the end of the period, Sergei Naumov made good saves one after another. At 17th Mark Hatigan SCORED IN COUNTER-ATTACK, LEADING IN FRONT DINAMO RIGA WITH A GREAT SLAPSHOT 4-3!!! 2 minutes remaining! Dinamo Moscow was really pressuring Dinamo Riga in the last minutes, they even changed their goalie for 6th player. 9 seconds till the end of the game Dinamo Riga got a penalty. Dinamo Riga(Naumovs :)) held on to the VICTORY!!!
Best players, in my opinion, in this game were - Mark Hartigan, Sergei Naumov, Marcel Hossa.
As I hoped, Dinamo Riga played really good this time in all positions, there were few mistakes, that resulted in goal concerning and also dangerous attacks from Moscow Dinamo side, but it all ended well, there could be much more goals scored against Dinamo Riga. Thank you Dinamo Riga for this great game. This time I could not attend this game because I am ill, but next time I will be there for them when Dinamo Riga will face Dinamo Minsk on 6th october! :)
Next game preview will be availible on 05.10.08 and review on 06.10.08 right after the game, when Dinamo Riga will face against Dinamo Minsk
Game against CSKA was pretty enjoyable, also result was good for Dinamo Riga, despite Dinamo Riga injury problems. Edgars Masalskis was beaten on the street after he had careless after-game party with his teammates celebrating last games win, also Atvars Tribuncovs was injured, he had before the game groin injury. Masalskis was replaced by Sergei Naumov who played in the Belorussian Open Hockey Championship with Masalskis in same league last season. Naumovs was a stable backup goalie, who had a bad game earlier this season 4 GA in 32 minutes against Metallurg Novokuznetsk, then he was replaced by Masalskis who letted in 3 pucks in his net. So before the game I was not so sure about the win tho knowing that CSKA now is not the team who was back in Soviet times. The game started at moderate temp, at the start more attacks had CSKA, so I almost had to close my eyes before every CSKA attack, knowing that Naumovs is in the net, but despite that after few minutes(9 min.) Ronald Petrovicky putted Dinamo in front with nice rebound shot. After that CSKA had few dangerous attacks that had must ended in tieuping the game... but no...Dinamo Riga scored again with great speedyMikelis Redlihs counter-attack ending the first period with 2-0 lead. At the start of second period CSKA had some more dangerous attacks. After 30 minutes Dinamo were shorthanded, CSKA had some great attacks but with no result and again with great counter-attack Marcel Hossa scored an shorthanded beauty. After 10 minutes Naumovs letted in a goal which had scored Parshin after that another one scored Kornev. After that Moscow still putted a lot of pressure on Dinamo Riga net but Naumovs had some great saves. At the start of the third period after great Viktors Blinovs pass goal scored Juris Stals and that was another counter-attack by Dinamo Riga. At the 49th minute CSKA scored again. Now it was 3:4 and Dinamo Riga got a lot of pressure from CSKA Moscow, but Dinamo Riga managed to hang on to the win. I was surprised that in last minute of the game CSKA's goalie was not changed for the 6th player...strange Bikov tactics were. Great game for both teams and also lucky one for Dinamo.
Spartak Moscow VS Dinamo Riga 5:1 24.09.2008 Game 10
Sadly, but this game was not translated here in Latvia, I followed this game using online live-text, so I can't give you a much of a review. I was hoping that Dinamo will have 5th straight victory, also Naumovs had proven himself in my eyes, so I was hoping for the best. As I know Dinamo Riga had some good chances, but Spartak Moscow was putting on really good presure on Dinamo Riga, with they'r stile of the play and dangerous shots on the goal. So my expectation went out of window.
Vityaz Chekhov VS Dinamo Riga 2:3 26.09.2008 Game 11
I had expected this game for some time, because Dinamo Riga and Vityaz Chekhov are currently the dirties teams in league, I hoped for some 'action'. For a despite Vityaz's two dirtiest players were disqualified for this game, because they had a massive fight in last game. This game was not televised second time in a row *angry*, so again...live-text. Well I was sure hoping for a victory, because Vityaz was at that time the second worst team in the league. As I saw in live-text Dinamo had some behaveior problems in first period and Vityaz near the end of the period scored Dinamo Riga for punishment a goal 1-0, after that Vityaz played aggressive hockey and was trying to provocate Dinamo. Before end of the second period Mark Hartigan tied the game. Starting third period some anger managment problems had also Duvie Westcott and Vityaz's Spailo, both had a fight, last of them received 10+4 minutes. These 4 PP minutes Dinamo used very well resulting in Marcel Hossa's 9th goal of this season, after legionares Novak's and Ellison's assists. Well I thought when that is victory for Dinamo, but no... rough guy Spailo had scored a goal in one minute befor the end buzzer. So game was in to the overtime where it had costed no results in scoring and now we were at shootout, where only goal scored was by Dinamo's Aleksandrs Nizivijs. A great game, sad that this game was not broadcasted here in Latvia.
To recap - 5 points in 3 games was better result then I expected. Naumovs showed in these games when he can replace Masalskis, I don't think that Masalskis would do any better in these games.
Next game there will be a against Dinamo Moscow, that clashes with my birthday-1.10.2008, I will have 20th birthday, I hope that Dinamo Riga will give me a good present! :)
Their will be a preview on 30.09 and review on 02.09 about this game on this blog.
