Alas, no video feed was available for the game, so the review is written from the on-line. The goalies in this Dinamo-duel were Vitali Koval and Sergejs Naumovs.

The beginning wasn’t successful for Dinamo Riga. The result was opened on the 4th minute by the home team. Less than two minutes after, Riga was left short-handed (Duvie Westcott for blocking), but our team held out. The next notable thing for the game report happened on the 16th minute – Dinamo Riga once again got a penalty (Filip Novak this time), and again on the 19th minute – Olegs Sorokins (welcome back!) for holding. And this time Dinamo Minsk didn’t waste their power-play – Sergey Zadelenov, 2:0! That was it for the first period.
On the start of the second period Dinamo Riga got its turn to have a PP, even a double one, but no goal was scored. Minsk got another penalty half a minute after it was at full-strength. Still – no luck for the visiting team. On the 31st minute Olegs Sorokins got his second penalty. Dinamo Minsk didn’t score, but Dinamo Riga did – at full-strength, Lauris Darzins! But the joy wasn’t long – Andrei Spiridonov regained a two-goal difference very soon. One of the assists went to our Latvian player Kaspars Saulietis, so congratulations! :-) 1:1 in the second twenty minutes.

As one of our trusted eyewitnesses informed – Koval was dragging the game all by himself. That probably means, that Dinamo Riga had a huge advantage, but, as it usually is, couldn’t turn it into goals. The third goal that Naumovs missed was from the blue line.

Nothing notable happened in the beginning of the third period. On 46:21 Martins Cipulis scored for Dinamo Riga – 3:2! But on 52:28 Yaroslav Chupris once again gave his team a two goal lead – 4:2 and it was the final score. Before the end Minsk had two more penalties. I’m sure Riga tried its best to get the puck in the net, but it didn’t happen thanks to Koval, probably. On 56:52 Lauris Darzins received 4 minutes, taking away Dinamo Riga’s chances to rescue the match.

I think it was a good game for both teams. Actually, it’s no wonder Dinamo Minsk won – it’s a completely different team than it was in the beginning of the championship.

Dinamo Riga’s next opponent is another Dinamo, only from Minsk, Belarus.

Dinamo Minsk was formed in the far 1946 as Torpedo Minsk and had several name changes throughout the years. The club got the name Dinamo only in 1977. In 1993 it was again changed – to Tivali Minsk. The club went bankrupt in 2001.

During its first part of existence ( 1946 to 2001) Dinamo played in the Soviet Union’s first and second leagues, later, when Belarus got its independence – in the Belarusian Open league (aka Belarusian Extraleague). Dinamo became the winner of Visshaya Liga (USSR/Russia’s second league) four times – in 1970, 1977, 1996 and 1997, and was the Belarus champion of 1993-1995 and 2000.

The club was brought back in 2004 under the final name of Dinamo and became the champion of Extraleague in 2007. In March, 2008 KHL confirmed the Belarusian club's inclusion in the league. Fate determined the old new Dinamo to play in Bobrov’s Divison.

Minsk was getting ready for KHL. Paul Gardner was assigned as head coach, but something didn’t please the club management and Mr. Gardner was dismissed already in the pre-season. Jimmy Hughes became the new trainer. But Dinamo’s results weren’t the best and he too left his post in October. So the new and current coach of the team is Vasiliy Spiridonov.

Right now Dinamo Minsk is placed 22nd in the overall standings with 26 points in 30 games; 63 goals for and 108 against. It’s one of the worst teams in all components, including getting points at home – only 12 out of a possible 42. Still it’s a very unyielding team.

Dinamo Minsk doesn’t score much, but still has its leaders: forward Yaroslav Chupris has the most points – 18 (7+11), after Yaroslav is Andrei Mikhalev with 13 (9+4) pts, Sergey Demagin (6+4), Viktor Andrushenko (3+7); the most scoring defensemen are Ben Klymer – 11 (2+9), Andrei Antonov – 8 (4+4), Brayan Myuir – 7 (1+6).

Goalkeeper Andy Chiodo is considered as number one – 21 games, 87.7 %, the second goaltender is Matus Kostur - 10 games, 85.3%. Dinamo has one more keeper – Vitali Koval, who was injured so had only 5 games, but he’s ok and is already playing. It’s possible he will be in the net tomorrow.

Of course, Dinamo Riga looks more preferable and is stronger “on paper”, but in practice – anything is possible. It won’t be easy tomorrow, but I think, Riga will get points. It depends on how fresh our team will be after the previous game and how will Minsk show itself – will it be full of strength or withered – Dinamo Minsk’s last game was on November 29, where the team lost in shot-outs to Metallurg Magnitogorsk.

P.S. The two Dinamo’s have already met each other in the pre-season – Riga won 5:1, but in the first KHL match between these teams Riga celebrated a 8:5 victory.

Naumovs Changes Helmet Arwork

Already in the game against Salavat Yulyaev when Sergejs Naumovs came in Martin Prusek's place after 53rd minute he had opportunity to show his new helmet. He currently has two helmets, one he will use for home games(the dark one) and other for away games (light one), new helmet artwork has made by studio ''DaveArt'', which owner is David Gunnarsson.

This season Sergejs Naumovs is playing +/- solid, he in his 18 games has 3.41 GAA and good 90.1 SA%. I hope new helmet will improve his stats! :D

Well I don't know if will help to stop pucks more. Anyway great artwork I really like it. :)

The goalkeepers were Gelashvili and Naumovs.

Dinamo controlled the puck more the starting minutes, but the first shots were held only on the second minute, after which Lokomotiv had a counter-attack, but without luck. Then Riga again went attacking. Ankipans and Hossa made some nice shots, and again Loko had a counter-attack. On the 9th minute Lokomotiv (Mikhnov) had its first real moment, but Naumovs made a great save. Then the teams started exchanging attacks, Riga still held the puck more, but Lokomotiv’s shots were a little more dangerous. On the 15th minute Ellison was alone in front of the net, but he couldn’t handle the puck properly, so no goal. Yaroslavl once again made a counter-attack and Irgl almost scored, Naumov was in his place. The most interesting thing of the period happened on the 19th minute – M. Redlihs run one-on-one, elegantly overplayed the defenseman, shot and hit Gelashvili, but the puck still slided into the net – 1:0 for Dinamo after the first twenty minutes. The speeds were low, no penalties, shots in the period – 8 for Loko and twice as much for Dinamo – 16.

Teams exchanged attacks in the beginning of the second period. Dinamo had a better chance to score. On the 4th minute Meija had a nice opportunity, he didn’t score, but he got a power-play for his team, in which Riga let Loko to counter-attack twice, but on the last seconds Darzins gave Dinamo a 2:0 lead! Then Riga got a penalty (Westcott for tripping) and Lokomotiv needed only 28 seconds to make the score 1:2! The home team continued pressing. Nilson run into Sotnieks, there was blood, but the body-check was correct, so no punitive was applied. Then Ellison got a penalty. Loko attacked very dangerously, Naumovs was great; Westcott had a counter-attack once. After some seconds after Ellison was back on the ice, Dinamo once again got 2 minutes (Darzins) and once again Loko had some very dangerous shots, especially in the end of the penalty, when the puck almost crossed the net line. On the 19th minute Galvins and Cipulis skated into Loko’s zone, Guntis passed to Martins and Dinamo’s #47 didn’t miss – a wrist-shot and 3:1 for Riga! Before the break Anikeyenko had an opportunity to score. Dinamo used its chances in the second period, Loko didn’t, although the home team was much better. Shots in the second period: Loko – 16, Dinamo – 11 (24-27 after 40 minutes of the game).

Both teams had moments at the beginning of the third period. On the 3rd minute Cipruss got a penalty. Nurislamov, Anikeyenko didn’t use their chances. Dinamo was at full-strength when Mikhnov had a great opportunity to score being in front of the net. Then Konkov along with his partner didn’t use their chance. Lokomotiv was attacking like it still had a PP. Another missed moment for Zhukov. No wonder the game operators showed Naumovs so often. Sergejs was the main hero, thanks to whom the score didn’t change. But Dinamo’s goalie couldn’t always be the savior. On 49:01 Galimov made 2:3. Alexandr with his partner Mikhnov twisted Dinamo’s defenceman and scored right in the goalkeepers five hole! Loko continued pressing. Riga again was short-handed. Yashin, Galimov had nice moments. Lokomotiv players attacked and attacked, they couldn’t score, but they once again got a PP. Dinamo defended well. The time was slipping away fast. Lokomotiv took a time-out, pulled the goalie out and 17 seconds before the serene Mark Hartigan strikes the empty net! Dinamo won 4:2!

Riga showed very good hockey today, but I think Loko was a little stronger and also unlucky. The team from Yaroslavl didn’t use those many chances they had, Dinamo, on the other hand, used theirs. The great game, that Naumovs and Riga’s defenders showed, allowed our team to keep the proper result.

Tomorrow Dinamo Riga will face a tough opponent from Yaroslavl, they have a really talented team built up for this season. As KHL official salary table shows, Yaroslavl Lokomotiv had all the money to build up a great team for this season, they had 19.800.000$ for this season to spend on player salaries.

Short Yaroslavl Lokomotiv History

Yaroslavl Lokomotiv played generally in the Second League of the Class "A" group during the Soviet era, being promoted to the First League of Class "A" for the 1983-1984 season. Known as Torpedo Yaroslavl at that time, the team enjoyed moderate success under head coach Sergei Alekseyevich Nikolaev. Never a powerful club during the Soviet era, the team became a consistent winner during the 1990s, and won their first league championship in 1997 under coach Petr Vorobev. The club moved from Avtodizel Arena to the new Arena 2000 early in the 2001-2002 season, and won consecutive league championships in 2002 and 2003 under Czech head coach Vladimir Vujtek, Sr. Vujtek left the club after the 2002-03 season for a lucrative contract offer from rival Ak Bars Kazan. Lokomotiv have not been able to replicate their success since that time, but remain a perennial contender in the Russian Super League.

Of course one of the top players are former NHL star Aleksei Yashin with 22 points(10+12), defender Aleksander Guskov 22(9+13), forward Aleksei Kudashov with 20 points(7+13) and Czech forward Irgl Zbynek with 19 points(10+9). Also worth mentioning is Vitaly Vishnevsky who has played more then 550 games in NHL and Josef Vasicek who had totaled 460 games in NHL, he was most notable with his great offensive play in Carolina Hurricanes. Overall perfomance

This season Yaroslavl Lokomative are doing really well, they are currently in 5h possition, with 17 wins in 30 games, they are short 11 points from first place, they are averaging 3.0 goals for and 1.8 goals against. Overall they are showing that they have one of the best defence in whole league and also they have people who can score, basicaly they are solid balanced team.

Prediction

Tomorrow we will play most likley with Sergejs Naumovs, because Martin Prusek got minor injury from the last game and he missed out yesterdays training because of that, I think that Prusek will sit on the bench tomorrow. Recently Dinamo Riga are playing really good, mostly because of Martin Prusek, who concerned in last few games avarege 1 puck in a game. In my opinion tomorrow game will be really hard for Dinamo Riga, Yaroslavl will be putting a great pressure on Dinamo Riga. As I stated earlier, Dinamo Riga can lose to anyone and they at the same time win anyone, unpredictable team. Game review will be tomorrow right after the game, stay tuned.

Prusek will be together with the team for away trip

As earlier informed, some unofficial news told that Martin Prusek has been injured, after collision with Aleksandr Radulov in game against Salavat Yulaev . As informed Dinamo Riga official home page Martin will be playing and he has no serious injury, so everithing went well. Yesterday Prusek was sitting on bench in training, but he will be ready to play against Lokomativ Yaroslavl.

Hossa in the KHL All-star game

The first KHL All-star game will be held on January 10th, 2009. The Russian players will play against foreigners; the teams will be called Yashin-team and Jagr-team. These players will be the captains.

According to the rules Alexei Yashin (Lokomotiv) and Jaromir Jagr (Avangard) both have to pick two players for their teams. The starting lines and goalkeepers will be chosen by the fans after a voting on KHL’s official website from December 2 to 22. The journalists will choose the second lines and goalkeepers after the fan voting.

Yashin’s team will join the captain of Yaroslavl’s Lokomotiv – Aleksei Kudashov and the captain of Chelyabinsk’s Traktor – Andrey Nikolishin.

Jagr decided to take his teammate Yakub Klepish and Dinamo Riga’s forward Marcel Hossa.
